It is al about being more sustainable in every way, not on digitalisation as a goal. Josefien Vanhuyse from Neanex on digital and sustainability.

Digitalisation is not an aim but a way to evolve.

‘First, I’d like to point out that there’s a lot of ‘greenwashing’, also in our sector. We must be clear about the purpose and business objectives.

Neanex is a platform, better described as a digital asset register. Our mission is to develop a data driven way of working, contributing to a more sustainable built environment through a more intelligent use of assets. It’s simple and at the same time incredibly complex.

Digitalisation is never the aim.

It’s a means to an end. It’s been said countless times before. Every project has its own dataset, every party involved steers and manages based on its own priorities. Your asset management and digital environment should facilitate and make those data streams customized for whomever needing them.

Sustainability is not about being green or ecological alone. Resources are scarce and for the construction industry, materials is an important aspect to take into consideration. It’s about the efficient use, and re-usage of materials, components, and assets.

There’s also an economical aspect to that. Gone are the days of ‘hit and run’ businesses. It’s about adding value in the long term, developing infrastructure that sustains a way of living compatible with the future and creating digital and business ecosystems to realize this. That for one, is something we all learned from the pandemic. Imagine we did not have connectivity, or energy? What should our future world look like? How do we use and need spaces, infrastructure, connectivity? There is a human or social aspect where we should take responsibility that critical assets are always available and safe. Nobody is in need for new dramas of collapsing bridges, parking lots, badly maintained cable elevators,...

The construction passport

That social dimension is a third, important way of thinking. We gain insights through data, and we should use them to steer our decision in a more rational way.

The ‘construction passport’ is an inevitable step towards a greener future. Notarising, indexing materials and resources used with their specific maintenance instructions, will make for better decisions, better projects and, in the end, more profitable companies, all working together for a sustainable built world.

It might come across as idealistic, but it isn’t. It’s a plain and simple fact staring you brutally in the face. If you know more about the assets you dispose of you, you will know how to efficiently use them.

Sustainability through data and knowledge

Data driven management of assets is the gateway to sustainability. The ‘materials passport’ is a first step towards that future. Our platform allows for insights in the actual state of your asset throughout the asset lifecycle. You can approach that in a purely managerial way, or you can use it to steer and improve your processes towards that societal goal.

We already play a role in developing a proactive sustainable attitude through data, because the system allows you to be proactive in terms of maintenance and risk management, but actively developing that circular vision in construction is something that should grow. It implies familiarity with data, with open standards, with management information systems and digital asset management. It is hard work to get the message out there for sure!

There’s still a long road to cover for most companies.
But we will push through!

Hope that you will join us.

Establishing “digitally sustainable” asset registers for construction data.

There is a lot to do about Material & Building Passports in the industry. But we are all looking for a way where to start . This article dives into the complex & technical way of making sure your data is structured & used in a future proof manner. Because we will need the data in these passports for a long time. Neanex makes sure you as an organisation doe not need to bother with this complexity in the back, but you can use the Neanex tooling to make sure you are future proof at all time.

Neanex recognized as Key Innovator by European Commission

The Innovation Radar is a European Commission initiative to identify high potential innovations and innovators in EU-funded research and innovation projects. Neanex was detected on this radar as Key Innovator, so we are very proud on our team, technology and consortium partners to be recognised for our game-changing technology.

How to evolve from document based to data driven. By Mathias Everaert.

I’m personally convinced that smart digitalisation is the first step towards better follow up and insights on daily activities. Also, digitalisation and automation can only be accomplished when you have a good understanding of the industry, market, general problems, complexity and the needs of teams and companies.

Digital Twins for Physical Assets by Neanex & Semmtech

Data is everywhere, with the digital revolution in the AECO industry, the amount of data is even increasing exponentially every day. The generous availability of data allows the creation of a Digital Twin: a realistic digital representation of a physical asset, with bidirectional synchronisation between the two. But there are some challenges to tackle. Catherine Pissens ( Neanex) and Bram Bazuin ( Semmtech) have noted it down in this article.

Jan Van Steirteghem, (BESIX) on the need to rethink the principles of the construction industry.

We cannot fight climate emergency without efforts and fundamental rethinking of what we do. It’s not about marginal changes, but about fundamental ones. And I see opportunities for companies like ours, and like Neanex. Because digitalization and data insights will become more and more important in fighting climate emergency.”

Daan Oostinga, (Semmtech) on the growing importance of digital assets in the evolution towards sustainability in the infrastructure business.

It’s very nice to know that you have a certain resource in an asset, to extract that resource, you need to become precise, you need to know and to be able to simulate, it’s not enough to have ‘a hunch’. That’s not how business decision should be made.

Material Passport based on Linked Data ft. Heijmans

As we need to give our limited resources an identity to create a sustainable built environment, Neanex strongly believes in the power of Linked Data. Aligned with Heijmans goals to strive for more circular in the way they handle construction materials, we have set up a Material Passport based on Linked Data together.

Driven by data, obsessed by insights by Maarten Herelikxa

As you know the Neanex Portal as Digital Asset Register aims to extract useful information from the data sources provided by all parties involved in a building process. Those data are turned into useful instruments for maintenance, cost efficiency and management of the building process. But how can we step it up?

The huge challenges of a traditional sector

How does a sector like construction tackle the need for new business models as the pressure on margin and complexity is increasing day by day. François Snoeck as new lead for the neanex expert team, reflects on this matter.

“A Digital Twin is a dynamic, virtual representation of a building, its assets, processes and systems.”

The SPHERE project pushes the development of a user-friendly SPHERE Platform, an ecosystem integrating services, tools, and solutions from various consortium members together into a Digital Twin. During the four SPHERE pilot projects, information from different sources (e.g., the actual assets, sensor data, simulations) is combined, interpreted, and processed to eventually feed back to the physical building.

Know Your Asset Inside Out

Digital Asset Register is the static version of a digital twin to state it in a simple way. Connect information from different sources relevant for this specific asset throughout the project lifecycle. This register provides the single source of truth.

Risk Management for Asset Owners

How do you struggle for asset management to have real insight in the status or your asset? How can we enable control and insight in the right information to make relevant decisions? Do you have data or do you need information. Neanex enables 'smart' asset management to lower risk on high unforseen costs.
